DRA’s Outreach Efforts in Summer 2024

In early August, Communication Assistant, Dana Peterson, presented background information, current happenings, and future plans for DRA to Defiance’s City Council members. This presentation had the goal of sharing more about DRA and spreading the positive work being done by our researchers.

Dana was also provided with the opportunity to attend Lake Erie Awareness Day at Put-In-Bay with members of DRA’s Executive Committee. This trip consisted of visiting Ohio State University’s South Bass Island Research Facility, Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island, and gaining plenty of other insightful information and experiences regarding Lake Erie and its environmental impacts.

Overall, Defiance Research Alliance continues to make significant strides in community engagement. The alliance contributes to a deeper understanding of water quality in the Maumee Watershed by hiring local graduates and the dedicated efforts of our researchers. Outreach efforts only further amplify the positive impact of DRA’s work. Together, these initiatives not only enhance local environmental knowledge but also strengthen the community’s role in protecting and preserving our vital water resources.
